Spring Awakening
Spring awakens with morning glory, salvia, lavender, and rose—earth in inflorescence. Fig, peach, even that stubborn old grapevine, resisting my attempts at taming it year after year, now stirs from its torpor. This encounter embodies rebirth and emergence.
They say spring brings life to the land, yet the plants were never truly dead, just in a quiet state of rest. What speaks to the plants, coaxing them to awaken? Is it the sun's lengthening journey and the warming temperature that whispers, 'Wake up'? Whatever the mystery, joy and splendor fill my being to bear witness to this emergent Spring.
Thanks for the blossoming spring and the tranquil rest of winter. This winter brought us abundant rain, nourishing the earth with the water of life. Thanks to Creator for forming me from the elements, allowing my body to receive rain without drowning, bask in sunlight without incinerating, and withstand the wind without extinguishing. Like the earth and its garden, my body, soul, heart, and mind awaken after the long winter's rest, rejuvenated by the life-giving rain. Together with the gardens of Earth, we emerge.
What will rebirth look like for me this cycle? What will it feel and sound like? It is easy to see emergence and blossom in plants but what does it look like in us human plants? How are humans affected by Spring?
For one, my body sheds its old dry skin and the protective layers grown to shield me from the winter chill. My skin regains its sun-kissed bronze. No longer hunched to conserve heat, my body stands taller, luxuriating in the cool breeze that tempers the warming surface. My internal clock has adjusted, transforming me into an early riser synchronized with the lengthening of daylight, brimming with excitement to greet the morning sun and bid farewell to the evening sky as its deep purples and blues quench its fading flame.
Thanks for the changing seasons, the cyclical transformations, and the promise of new beginnings. Thanks for the shedding of old layers and the revelation of a bright, new, shining self. Thanks for the wild spring bloom, reflecting my own emergence. Thanks for the return of our plant companions, the flowers and the fruit. We are here to embrace another day.
