Earth Time Revelation
How would time be experienced without the Roman calendar? If we were to structure time based on the movements and cycles of the moon, what would that feel like? And what significance do the moon's phases hold for us, as spiritual beings connected to the Earth? When I contemplate a lunar cycle, I think of the woman's menstrual cycle, the ebb and flow of tides, and the rhythmic rise and fall of the ocean. The moon acts as a timekeeper for Earth's inhabitants, including the turtle, whale, and owl, all living in harmony with the Earth and its natural rhythms.
Recently, I've come to realize that the world and the Earth are not necessarily synonymous. I'm starting to understand that human civilization, society, and states often represent "the world." The world adheres to manmade calendars, although derived from cosmic influences. However, I have my own worlds too. Sometimes, my worlds align with the sun or the moon, the migratory path of a monarch butterfly, the arrival of springtime robins, or the blooming of roses in summer and winter. Therefore, I do not wish to generalize "the world" as the exclusive realm of any particular society or civilization, as it signifies a system. There are plant worlds, blue jay worlds, hummingbird worlds, and even planetary worlds. There are also inner worlds, spiritual worlds, and worlds that intersect and intertwine, influenced by factors such as class, race, and gender.
By conceiving of "the world" as infinite and open-ended in its meaning, I begin to dismantle the barriers that separate me from the rest of the world. This sparks my creative intellect as I explore the multitude of worlds I currently inhabit and those I aspire to explore. Which worlds do I envision shaping my universe? In an instant, I find myself standing at the crossroads of many worlds.
Reflecting on the fact that the Western calendar is based on the Roman one and that the month of August is named after a revered Roman figure, signifying their admiration with an extended month of thirty-one days, I realize that their calendar revolves around humankind and not God, Nature, or the flight of geese. It doesn't even align with the sun, let alone the feminine moon. In light of this, I feel less bound to their calendar. When I see a robin, I know that winter has reached its peak. It's robin time. Flowers that bloom in their own time have no regard for Roman calendars; they are attuned to the celestial ones. What other time is truly worth knowing for us?
